The island of Evia is located opposite Athens and in it there are several villages, but one of the most important cities is the city of Halkid, the capital. It is a place with lots of history. The island of Evia is definitely the second largest island in the country after Crete. It is separated from the mainland by the Gulf of Euboea. Besides the ruins of classical times we can also see a Byzantine basilica of Agia Paraskevi, a medieval fortress of the fourteenth century, fertile valleys, a landscape with hills, the ancestral home of many fishermen and a museum that gives absolute account the history of the island. And if you want a spa day as the government has built a fabulous resort with 84 individual bathrooms with whirlpool and an indoor pool that is great for all those who have some physical ailment that requires hot water.
